It’s Happening — New Development in Snowmass

The ink now dry on the deed, East West Partners and Aspen Skiing Company are well down the line with their plans for the completion of the next phase of Base Village in Snowmass. By summer, big cranes will be visible from throughout the Village; and, by fall, we’ll see all the buildings going vertical. Certainly, by next ski season, our visitors will be well aware that this long-delayed development is back on track. Continue reading

Base Village Masterplan June 2015

What’s Happening With Base Village? A Guide

Snowmass Village officials are having quite the busy summer, as they are neck deep in an intense and condensed review of an application to amend approvals for Related Colorado’s Base Village development. But apart from those involved — and a good-sized room full of interested observers — most people’s eyes glaze over at the mention of Base Village, a seemingly endless process that has gone through dramatic changes since its original approval in 2004.

Most recently, the transportation aspects of the Base Village plan, including a once-controversial roundabout, have been the focus. But instead of going into the nitty gritty of the most recent meeting, we’ve put together an overview of the process, Continue reading

A Plan for Base Village

On October 15, Related Colorado met one of the first of nearly two dozen milestones when it submitted to the Town of Snowmass Village its long-awaited application for the completion of Base Village. The plan, which is technically a PUD amendment, details changes to the remainder of the partially built project from its original approvals in 2004.

In a nutshell, the proposal strives for more diversity in its product mix than what was originally intended, including a pure hotel and fractional units to be developed by two new partners. Below the labeled diagram, you’ll find all the details about this Base Village plan (based on what we know so far), as well as a timeline for it that stretches out to 2019. Continue reading

Dancing Bear Owners Developing Aspen and Snowmass Projects

Both the Dancing Bear Aspen and Snowmass Base Village are a step closer to completion thanks to recently announced plans by the Sunrise Company.

Sunrise, which bought the Dancing Bear Aspen along with investment partner Oaktree Capital Management in 2012, is set to begin construction on the resort’s second and final phase, the Mountainside building. The companies have also signed a letter of intent to buy and develop a lot in Base Village, where they want to build up to 44 residences. Continue reading

Snowmass Limelight Scuttled as Base Village Developers Regroup

Progress on the uncompleted Snowmass Base Village took a step backward this week when Aspen Skiing Company terminated its agreement with Related Colorado to buy a piece of land next to the Elk Camp Gondola on which it planned to build a hotel and free-market condominiums. And while that’s certainly not good news, this latest turn may end up simplifying the process of planning for the base area’s completion. Continue reading
