Change to the core: What’s going up in Aspen

It’s going to be another busy summer — at least in terms of construction in downtown Aspen.

Just three months into 2013, more than $62 million worth of construction has been completed in the City of Aspen, nearly half of the total value of activity in both 2011 and 2012. But many of the more substantive downtown projects are either still in construction or will be underway soon, which will greatly add to that number.

It’s unclear at this point whether construction will surpass the value of $169 million set in 2008 (the highest in the last six years), but one thing’s for certain: this year and next will see the completion of a number of projects that are sure to transform the look and feel of Aspen’s commercial core.
