Welcome, Winter!

This year, we luxuriated in an extended Indian summer and glorious, dry fall that had everyone hiking, biking, and otherwise enjoying Aspen’s warm-season offerings well into November. But luckily for us, visitors who’ve planned a ski vacation, and all those businesses that rely on winter, it started snowing. SkiCo’s New Marketing Campaign: Mind, Body, Spirit, and Millennials

It may be Indian summer in Aspen/Snowmass, but the kickoff to the ski season for anyone in the industry is traditionally September, when the ski films start rolling out, buyers’ gear guides appear on magazine racks, and early ski pass purchase deadlines loom. Here in Aspen, the Aspen Skiing Company is hosting job fairs and the annual ski industry summit called The Meeting in a couple weeks. And for those interested in the company’s branding and messaging (there are plenty), SkiCo unveiled its new marketing campaign at a recent luncheon co-sponsored with the Aspen Chamber Resort Association, during which the increasing importance of the millennial market was explored in depth. What’s Up on the Mountain?

Ski resorts are investing more and more in on-mountain activities during the summer months, and Aspen/Snowmass is no different. Especially at Snowmass, where the Aspen Skiing Co. is in the midst of a multi-year effort to create a trails network and activities hub at Elk Camp Meadows. This summer, there’s plenty to report about new experiences on both Aspen and Snowmass mountains (including what’s in the works for next winter). Aspen/Snowmass Enjoys Record Holiday Season

By all accounts, this past holiday season was the busiest we’ve seen in quite a while. We heard there were records set everywhere, and it turns out to be true in terms of lodging, skier days, and airport traffic (and possibly other areas where we don’t have hard numbers to share). Continue reading
