Cheer on the Aspen Nine at the Winter Olympics

On January 31, Aspen’s gondola plaza filled with excited locals, not to line up for a powder day but for a celebratory event to send off six of our own to the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea. Actually, a total of nine Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club (AVSC) alumni are competing in this year’s Games — compare that to three athletes from Montana and nine from the entire state of Utah. At the 2014 Games, four athletes with Aspen roots competed on Team USA. Impressive, indeed, and clearly a huge source of great local pride, judging by turnout at the Olympic send-off event. The Best Local Holiday Happenings

With the holiday season upon us, the biggest question for most locals is how to fit it all in. Between work and other obligations, all the ski mountains fully open, and kids out of school for the holiday break, there’s hardly time to enjoy the myriad holiday events and offerings. Winding Down Winter in Style

The last of the spring breakers have left and Aspen/Snowmass is settling into wind-down mode. Or is it? Weather forecasters are predicting a fairly wet April, the snowpack is 127 percent of normal, and the ski areas are looking to close with some of the highest snow depths on record while Aspen Mountain is extending its season.
