It’s Happening — New Development in Snowmass

The ink now dry on the deed, East West Partners and Aspen Skiing Company are well down the line with their plans for the completion of the next phase of Base Village in Snowmass. John Calhoun, director of sales and marketing for East West, met with our office recently and assured us that the day after the ski season ends on April 17, we’ll definitely see at least a “dude with a shovel” out on the gondola plaza, soon to be followed by a huge construction crew getting started on four different projects. By summer, big cranes will be visible from throughout the Village; and, by fall, we’ll see all the buildings going vertical. Certainly, by next ski season, our visitors will be well aware that this long-delayed development is back on track. Continue reading

A Closer Look at the 2016 Real Estate Market

December 2016 capped a strong fourth quarter, one that nearly eclipsed the first three of the year. While it wasn’t enough to pull 2016 up to the levels of the prior two years, the final four months of 2016 nearly equaled the first eight, as election-year hesitation was replaced by some pent-up demand. Aspen’s considerable 12-month drop seemed to have as much to do with weak inventory as election-year jitters, so we’re pleased to see the increase in single-family home inventory — increasing demand should allow prices to stay strong. With adequate inventory and its comfortable price advantage over Aspen, Snowmass maintained its performance, actually growing dollar volume by 3%. Basalt also fared well, especially in average sales prices which, overall, grew by an impressive 13%. Continue reading

The Soul of Aspen

In a recent Aspen Times column, the Aspen Princess, Alison Margo, wrote about the spirit of Aspen, and how it’s still going strong. She found Aspen’s soul in Aspen Hall of Fame honorees, whom she interviews for videos commemorating their lives and contributions to the community. We were intrigued and wanted to know more: What exactly is it about these people who came to Aspen in the 1960s and ’70s, and still live here?
