Cruise under the full moon tonight

With Aspen’s gondola cranking up this Memorial Day weekend for both skiing and summer operations, town is in a rare bridge between off-season and summer at the moment. And Aspen Skiing Co. is debuting an event tonight that is sure to have crossover appeal to both locals ready to wake up after a sleepy off-season and the handful of tourists in town alike.

A look inside the hospital expansion

While Aspen Valley Hospital has made headlines of late for the size and scope of its multi-stage expansion, there’s actually quite a lot to report inside the bricks and mortar.

The second—and most extensive—of the project’s four construction phases is substantially complete; several renovated areas opened for business in November 2012. And while renovation plans don’t aim to add any new services, many of them are already greatly improved, according to hospital officials. Continue reading

The simple joys of offseason

One day you’re wearing a T-shirt and admiring the tenacity of crocuses blooming from a sodden patch of snow-flattened ground cover. The next morning you awake to a wet and heavy snowstorm that weighs down newly budded branches and re-coats everything in white, if only for a short time.
