On May 1, the Pitkin County Assessor’s Office will mail out 2013 property valuations to all County property owners. Since property values help determine taxes to be paid to myriad local taxing districts, and since the methods of determining these values can be mysterious to the average taxpayer, we asked Pitkin County Deputy Assessor and chief appraiser Larry Fite to explain what his office does, and what property owners can expect to see this year with their valuations. A Great Local School Faces a Big Challenge

There aren’t many things more important than the education of our children. Our small community has three amazing choices – an outstanding public school, a premier private school, and one truly incredible public charter school that offers the best of both, the Aspen Community School. “Last Thanksgiving, my 13-year old son Keaton flew from Aspen to Nicaragua – by himself (!) for a two week surfing trip. 14 hours of travel, four connections, clearing customs in another language. Needless to say, I was waaaaay more anxious than he was, but I trusted him completely. I credit the Aspen Community School for helping nurture Keaton into a young man who is capable and resourceful with a strong will and inner confidence.  These traits will serve him well for the rest of his life, and I will be forever grateful to the school.”

Our 19th Anniversary. There was a moment, and we each remember it.
